SALEM, Ore.– The Whitworth men's and women's cross country teams both placed 12th at the 44th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational Saturday morning.
Whitworth men competed in the 8-kilometer race, while the women ran in the 5-kilometer. Competing against Division I, III, and III talent, the men's 12th place finish put them ahead of Puget Sound (13th), Whitman (16th), and Lewis and Clark (17th). They ran an average time of 26:28.
The women lost an NWC first place tiebreaker to Willamette, but still concluded the morning ahead of Puget Sound (13th), Whitman (16th), and Linfield (19th). Their average time was 19:18.
William Glick was the first to finish for the men, finishing in 25:55.2 for a 41st place finish. Freshman Aidan Smith came in 43rd, one second behind Glick. Joel Mott was the next Pirate to cross the finish line with a 69th place finish.
The Whitworth women were led by senior Marissa Mount, coming in 33rd with a 18:15.0 finish. She finished only 0:0.1 behind Puget Sound's Emery Bradlina. The next Buc to cross the finish line was Krystal Roberts, finishing with a 19:17.8 time and 82nd place.
The Boise State men's and women's teams swept the overall invite, with both Willamette team's leading the DIII matchups.
The Bucs will travel to the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Saturday, October 13th for their next conference meet, a preview of the Northwest Conference Championships.
