WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Less than 24 hours after suffering a loss to Lewis-Clark State College, Whitworth swept the Warriors in a non-conference volleyball match on Saturday afternoon then went on to sweep Whitman for its second win on Saturday.
The Pirates (5-2) defeated the Warriors 25-22, 27-25, 27-25 and defeated the Blues 25-15, 25-21 25-15 thanks to 25 total kills from Emiko Kahler.
Whitworth defeated LCSC (8-5) in three close sets, one day after the Warriors beat the Bucs in four sets in Lewiston, Idaho. Kahler had 11 kills and came up with 11 digs for a double-double. Elise Anderson and Abby Wolverton added six kills apiece.
The Pirates pulled out both the second and third sets after trailing late in both games.
Whitworth kept the momentum going with the sweep of Whitman (0-2). Kahler had another big match with 14 kills and only two errors, finishing with a .353 hitting percentage. She also had three service aces. Iris Tikhonov added five kills and was in on five block assists. Kiana Vandaele had 14 digs.
Whitworth did not commit a hitting error in the third set.
The Pirates will return to action next weekend at the 2019 Pikes Peak Challenge, hosted by Colorado College.
