SPOKANE, Wash. – Hannah Miller and Rachel Wofford both scored in the final minute to give the Whitworth Pirates the 2-0 victory over the visiting Pacific (Ore.) Boxers in Saturday's Northwest Conference women's soccer match.
With the victory, Whitworth (5-11-1, 4-8-1 NWC) wins the season series with Pacific (3-12-1, 1-11-1). The Bucs and Boxers battled to a scoreless tie earlier in the season.
Neither team created many scoring opportunities in the first half. Whitworth had a 9-2 shots advantage over Pacific going into the break, with both teams taking two shots on goal.
Coprivnicar nearly scored on a pass from Sharp with about 15 minutes remaining in regulation, but Coprivnicar was called offsides.
As the match looked to be headed to overtime, the Pirates scored twice in 30 seconds. Jadyn Baumgartner found Miller a few yards from the goal, who sent her shot by Boxers goalkeeper Saya Brown for the first. Wofford put in the next, also in the 89th minute, as Brixiada Mendoza sent a pass from the left side of the box to Wofford on the right.
The Pirates finished with the lead in shots (17-5), shots on goal (6-4) and corner kicks (4-3). Isabelle Arends and Kaycie Priske split time in goal for the Pirates, each recording two saves. Brown finished with four saves for the Boxers.
Up next, Whitworth will face Linfield tomorrow at 11 a.m. for its last home match of the season.
