GENEVA, Ohio – Neither Sarah Martinez or Kayla Leland of Whitworth University were able to advance out of the trials in their respective events on Friday afternoon at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Martinez finished 7th in her heat of the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 59.19 during the second day of the meet, which is being hosted by Mt. Union University at the Spire Institute. She finished 22nd overall. Only nine runners qualified to finals.
Leland, who already qualified for finals in the 1,500 meter run on Thursday, was unable to duplicate the feat in the 800-meter run. She finished seventh in her heat in 2:17.22 and took 20th overall.
Martinez and Leland were the only to competitors for Whitworth on Friday.
Leland will run twice on Saturday. The finals of the 1,500 meters will start at 9:25 am (PDT) and then she will race in the 5,000-meter run, which will begin at noon (PDT).
Kayla Brase will also compete for the Pirates on Saturday. Brase is seeded fifth in the triple jump, which is scheduled to begin at 10:30 am (PDT).
