McMINNVILLE, Ore. - Kayla Leland grabbed a pair of first-place finishes and Come Nzibarega earned his first top mark of the season to lead the Whitworth track & field team at the Linfield Open in McMinnville, Ore. on Saturday, May 6.
Women's Top Results:
In the 800, Leland dominated, finishing in 2:12.81 to take first by over eight seconds. She followed that with another convincing win in the 5000-meter in 17:13.31. Second-place Natalie Smith (Unattached) finished in 19:18.65.
Maggie Callan finished ahead of the pack in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:06.05, holding off Trinity Western's Jordyn Piercy.
With a time of 12.61, Kameha Medallada edged Jenna Goddard from Lane CC for a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash.
The women's relay 4x100 relay team finished first in 48.66 and the 4x400 foursome took second behind the group from George Fox in 3:51.90. The 4x400 team's marks ranks them as 12th in the country.
Kayla Brase 's final distance 11.49m (37' 8.5") landed her second in the triple jump behind Unattached Emma Hill (12.15m, 39' 10.5").
Men's Top Results:
Leading the pack by over seven seconds, Nzibarega topped the 5000-meter run in 15:24.47.
With a final time of 54.72, John-Robert Woolley finished just behind George Fox's David Guild (54.49) for second in the 400 hurdles.
Daniel Harper earned a fifth place finish in the 800-meter run, crossing in 1:55.62.
Coming Up: With less than three weeks until the NCAA Division III National Championships, the Pirates will head to Spokane Falls' Sasquatch Meet on Wednesday, March 10 in the first of their last three meets.
