Leland, Bloom Lead Pirates at Oregon Twilight

EUGENE, Ore. - Kayla Leland and Andrew Bloom posted personal-records to lead the Whitworth track & field team at the University of Oregon's Twilight meet. The Pirates also sent a group of throwers to the CWU/ GNAC Final Qualifier. 

Oregon Twilight: 

The women's 4x100 relay team of Kameha Medallada, Sarah Cool, Sarah Martinez, and Maggie Callan ran a 48.30 to finish ahead of the field, beating NCAA Div. II Western Oregon by over one second. 

In the mile, Kayla Leland finished second behind a runner from the Altitude Run Club in 4:31.64. Leland added her third personal-record of the year, improving to sixth in the nation's top marks list. 

Sarah Cool finished in 59.11 to take third in the 400 dash. 

Andrew Bloom threw a new personal-record in the javelin, launching 68.65m (225' 3"), finishing second behind Oregon's Cody Danielson (72.80m, 238' 10"). Bloom still ranks second behind George Fox's Seth Nonnenmacher in the event, but improved his season-best and personal-record by over a foot. 

John-Robert Woolley took fourth in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 54.50. 

Central Washington / GNAC Final Qualifier: 

Men's thrower Jacob Hubbard earned third-place in the hammer, tossing 50.48m. Amani Brown (56.02m) from Washington State and Armando Tafoya (53.80M) from Central Washington took first and second, respectively. 

Chloe Quinnett threw a final distance of 11.91m in the shot put to take fourth behind two competitors from Idaho and one unattached thrower. 

Next Up: Whitworth will finish up the weekend at the University of Washington's Ken Shannon Invitational and the Linfield Invite on Saturday, May 6.
