SPOKANE, Wash. - Whitworth track & field posted multiple first and second-place finishes on day two of the Sam Adams Classic hosted by Whitworth on March 24. The women combined for three first-place finishes and the Jacob Sturtevant added another for the men with a time of 22.51 in the 200 dash.  

Danielle Openiano won the shot put with a 12.17m (43' 2.5") throw for a near two foot victory over second-place Daphne Puckett from Great Falls. She followed that up with a third place finish in the discus, throwing 39.47m (129' 6"). 

Kayla Leland ran a 4:44.56 for third place in the 1500-meter run. Idaho's Krista Story won the event in 4:39.05. Leland finished fourth in the 800 run in 2:21.87. 

Sarah Cool won the 200 dash in 26.01 and followed that in the 100 dash, with a second-place finish in 12.73 behind Idaho's Nicole Carter.

In the 100 hurdles, Maggie Callan in 16.28 for second-place. She added another second-place finish in the 400 hurdles with a tine of 1:05.27. 

Kayla Brase moved into third-place in the heptathlon with 4130 points and Sarah Martinez finished fourth with 4113 points. Kendra Hamm from Eastern Washington won the heptathlon with 4392 points.

In the triple jump, Lori Sandy took first with an 11.01m (36' 1.50") final distance to beat three competitors from Idaho. Karna Terpstra leaped her way to a second-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.54 (5' 0.5").

The 4x100 relay team of Kameha Medallada, Sarah Cool, Paige Wolter, and Maggie Callan ran their way to a season-record time of 49.48 for a second-place finish behind the foursome from Idaho who won the race in 49.22. Cool, Leland, Taylor Currin, and Bailey Scott finished tsecond in the 4x400-meter relay in 4:13.06. 

Jacob Sturtevant won the 200 dash with a time of 22.51 for a tight victory over runners from Lewis-Clark State and Idaho.  

Nick McGill got second in the decathlon with 5407 points. Spokane Community College's Tyler Blakeley won the event with 5474. 

John-Robert Woolley led a three-four-five finish in the 400 hurdles for the Bucs in 56.62. He was followed by Jonathon Backous and Ryan Adams in 58.47 and 1:02.84, respectively.  

The 4x400 relay team of Jalen Robinson-McClure, Sturtevant, Harper, and Woolley won the event in 3:25.91. LCSC finished less than one second behind Whitworth in 3:26.83.

In the 800 run, Daniel Harper finished third in 1:56.27 behind two runners from Gonzaga. 

Ryan Adams and Ryan Otterholt finished third and fourth in the triple jump with 12.40m (40' 8.25") and 12.29m (40' 4") distances, respectively.

Next Up: The Pirates will compete at the Shotwell Invitational hosted by Puget Sound and the Linfield Invite hosted by Linfield on April 1. Both meets will begin at 10:00 a.m.
