Pirates Post Nationally Ranked Marks at SPU

SEATTLE, Wash. – Kayla Leland finished third in the 800-meter run behind two runners from Western Oregon and Kayla Brase posted a second-place finish in the triple jump, leading the Pirates at the Seattle Pacific University Final Qualifier meet on Saturday, Feb. 25. 

After a intrasquad meet at the Pine Bowl on Friday, the Whitworth track & field team travelled to Seattle Pacific's Dempsey Indoor Facility for an indoor qualifying meet. 

Leland's third place finish with a time of 2:12.65 gives her a new season-best as well as puts her in eighth place for the 800 meter in Div. III according to TFFRS (Track & Field Results Reporting System). 

With a final distance of 39 feet 0.25 inches, Brase recorded a new season-best, outjumping her previous-best of just over 37 feet. Her final distance gives cracks the top 15 for Div. III. 

Kolton Carlson threw 49 feet 0.75 inches for a new personal-record and a second-place mark in the weight throw. 

Next Up: The Pirates will head to Tacoma, Wash. on March 4 to compete in the Ed Boitano Invitational. Events will start at 11:00 a.m.
