SEATTLE, Wash. – Kayla Leland ran a sub-five minute personal-record time to take first in the mile run, setting a new Whitworth record at the Husky Indoor Open hosted by the University of Washington on Sunday, Feb. 12.
Lelands time of 4:56.19 in the mile edged Whitworth alum Tonya Turner's time of 4:59.03 for a new school record, a record that was set in 2011. In addition to her top finish and best time in the mile, Leland reached a season-best in the 800-meter in 2:15.63.Kathryn Jentz recorded a time of 10.24 in her first showing in the 60-meter hurdles, less than one second behind Whitworth leader Sarah Martinez. The foursome of Jentz, Kayla Brase, Maggie Callan, and Martinez took the season-best time in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:07.97 (previous team-best was 4:12.99).
Brase topped her season-best in the triple jump with a distance of 37 feet 4.50 inches in the third flight.
In the men's 200-meter dash, Jacob Sturtevant recorded a new personal-best, crossing the finish line in 23.24. Jalen Robinson-McClure contested his PR in the 400-meter dash of 49.48 with a 51.63 final time on Sunday. Sturtevant, Robinson-McClure, John-Robert Woolley, and Nick McGill ran a season-best time in the 4x400-meter relay for the Pirates finishing fourth in section two with a time of 3:29.87.
Jacob Hubbard recorded a third place finish in his flight of the shot put, but smashed his previous PR with a 39 feet 10 inch final distance.
