LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's golf team placed both third and sixth on Tuesday in the Lilac Collegiate at the Liberty Lake Golf Course.
Reilly Hegarty shot 65-73 – 138 (-2) for the Pirates to tie for first with Bridger Holmes (71-67 – 138) of North Idaho College.
Whitworth sent two squads to the tournament, an "A" team and a "B" team. Hegarty's tie for first led the "A" squad to a third-place finish. The "B" squad moved up one spot the second day to take sixth.
Also, for the "A" team, Caleb Belton (74-72 - 146) tied for eighth with sixth other players. Will Alexander (77-71 - 148) finished two strokes behind Belton to tie for 19th. Sam Stiles (74-78 - 152) tied for 29th and Oliver Nordberg (79-79 - 158) tied for 40th.
Keegan Loo led the "B" team tying for eighth with a score of 76-70 - 146. The rest of the "B" squad was Landon Spencer (75-74 – 149, T21st), JackRyan O'Neil (76-74 – 150, T23st), Gabe Cach (79-78- 157, 39th) and Dawson Ruhl (85-74 – 159, T42nd).
The final team scores were: North Idaho College 574, North Idaho College B 582, Whitworth 584, Rocky Mountain 587, Lewis-Clark State 597, Whitworth B 598, CC of Spokane 617, Columbia Basin 622, Rocky Mountain B 627, Olympic 653.
The Pirates return to action this coming weekend as they compete in the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in Woodburn, Oregon. The NWC Fall Classic counts as 25% of the final league standings.
