SPOKANE, Wash. – The fall half of the 2018-19 Whitworth men's golf season gets underway this weekend at the PLU Fall Invitational on The Home Course in Dupont, Washington.
Tee times on Sunday and Monday will be at 8:00 am.
The Pirates return nearly every team member from last year, when Whitworth rallied from a poor performance at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic to finish in second place in the final league standings.
The junior and senior-laden roster includes ten players, nine of whom played for the Pirates last school year. There are no freshman on the team in 2018-19. The only newcomer is senior Derrick Phelps, who transferred from NCAA Division II St. Martin's University.
Head coach Scott Kramer is in his second season leading the Pirates. The team believes that the momentum built at the end of last spring will carry over into this year.
The Pirates finished second in the 2018 NWC Preseason Coaches Poll with two first place votes and 55 points in the poll. Defending NWC champion Pacific Lutheran was first in the poll with the other seven first place votes.
After this weekend, Whitworth will return to the west side for the Puget Sound Invitational on September 29-30. October will be busy with the Lilac Collegiate in Liberty Lake on October 8-9 and the NWC Fall Classic in McMinnville, Oregon. The fall schedule closes with the Whitman Invitational in Walla Walla on October 20-21.
