Nerud (Sr., Valencia, Calif.) was previously named second team All-West Region by D3baseball.com. He took over as Whitworth's starting short stop in 2019 and earned first team All-Northwest Conference recognition. He was the 2019 NWC batting champion with a .392 average and led the league in total hits (71). Nerud finished with 13 doubles, drove in 31 runs and earned NWC Position Player of the Week twice (April 8 and April 22). A threat on the base baths, Nerud stole 22 bases in 23 attempts.
He matched his outstanding hitting with stellar defense. Nerud posted a fielding percentage of .964 with only seven errors in 194 total chances and he was part of 23 double plays, the most on the team.
Bailey (Sr., 3B, Spokane, Wash.) hit .370 with 16 doubles, a triple and two home runs in 2019. He led the Pirates, and ranked third in the NWC, with 37 runs-batted-in. Bailey dominated during conference play, where he batted an NWC-best .411 in 24 games. His 15 doubles was also the best among NWC players in league-only statistics, leading to a first team All-NWC honor. Bailey played a stellar third base (.939 fielding percentage) and was a big reason Whitworth led the league in team fielding percentage (.975).
Nerud and Bailey helped lead the team to a 27-15 record and an NWC regular season title (19-5).
