SPOKANE, Wash.- After a pair of strong finishes at the Charles Bowles Invitational two weeks ago, Whitworth cross country travels to the Lewis & Clark Invitational this weekend to take on Northwest Conference foes.
The Lewis & Clark Invitate is the Pirates final tune-up before the Northwest Conference Championships on Oct. 28. It takes place Saturday, Oct. 14 at McIver State Park in Estacada, Ore. The meet is schedule to begin at 11:00 a.m.

The Lewis & Clark invite follows a nice weekend for the Pirates at the Charles Bowles Invitational. The women's team took home a fifth place finish, best of all the Northwest Conference squads competing. The men finished 11th overall, the fourth-best result of NWC schools.
Kayla Leland, recently named the Whitworth / Subway women's student-athlete of the month, won the Bowles Invite with a 6-kilometer time of 17.37.1. It was Leland's first victory of the season after finishing in the top-10 at Clash of the Inland Northwest and the Sundodger Invitational.
Bailey Scott and Thais Pedro Trujillo joined Leland in the top-40 at Bowles. Scott's 21st place and Pedro Trujillo's 35th place results were instrumental in securing the Pirates' top-5 finish overall.
After their result at the Bowles Invite and a weekend off last week, the Whitworth women held strong in this week's USTFCCCA rankings, coming in at 19th nationally and 2nd in the west region.
On the men's side, an 11th-place team finish at Bowles kept them 10th in the regional rankings.
Grant Bingham and Daniel Harper led the Pirate men with finishes of 27th and 33rd respectively. As a team, Whitworth finished fourth out of the eight NWC schools competing, coming in behind Pacific Lutheran, Willamette, and Lewis & Clark.
After Saturday's meet, the Pirates compete next at the Northwest Conference Championships in Walla Walla, Wash. The NWC Championships takes place Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10:00 a.m.
