SALEM, Ore. – The Whitworth men's and women's cross country teams both finished in the top ten at the 38th Annual Charles Bowles Invitational at Bush's Pasture Park.
Freshman Colton Berry was the first to cross the finish line for the Pirates, completing the Cardinal 8k Race in 26:07.28. Senior Tim Hill and junior Matt Edwards were next for the Bucs, crossing at 26:17.79 and 26:19.41, respectively.
The men's team finished eighth out of 19 teams with a score 221. The University of Portland won the men's Cardinal 8k Race with a team score of 16. The Pirates were third among the Northwest Conference teams, finishing behind host school Willamette University in fifth and the University of Puget Sound in sixth.
For the women, sophomore Christina Anderson was the first Pirate to finish the women's Cardinal 5k Race, coming in 20th with a time of 18:49.10. Junior Elisabeth Spencer was right behind Anderson, coming in 21st with a time of 18:50.54. Freshman Kellyn Roiko (19:13.01) and senior Celeste Northcott (19:41.30) also finished under the 20:00 mark for the Bucs.
The women's team finished ninth out of 20 teams with a score of 271. Oregon State won the women's Cardinal 5k Race with a team score of 28. The women also finished third among the NWC teams, coming in behind Willamette, who finished sixth, and Linfield College in seventh.
The teams will return to action in two weeks at the Inland Northwest Challenge on October 13.
