The Whitworth men's and women's cross country teams will be participating in the Runner's Soul Erik Anderson Invite on Saturday.
In races that feature a variety of competition from Division I, II and III schools, the teams will run a course at Plantes Ferry Park in Spokane Valley. The women will run a 5k race starting at 10:45 am, while the men's team will run an 8k race that starts at 11:30 am.

The Pirates: Whitworth had a solid showing last weekend at the 20th Annual Sundodger Invitational in Seattle. The men's team finished sixth overall and was first among the Northwest Conference teams. The women's team finished ninth overall and fourth among the NWC teams.
Sophomore Christina Anderson finished the 6k race in 22:58.06 to lead the women's team. On the men's side, sophomore Taylor Steele was the first to finish the 8k race, crossing the line with a time of 26:06.61.
Joining the Ranks: In the latest USTFCCCA Division III Regional Cross Country rankings, the men's team was ranked fourth out of the 23 teams in the West Region, while the women's team was ranked eighth out of 23 teams.
In the Northwest Conference rankings, the men's team is second while the women are fifth.
2011 Runner's Soul Erik Anderson Invite: The men's team finished in 10th place, with junior Andrew Ryder crossing the finish line in 26:46.55 and senior Tim Hill finishing in 26:55.11. The women's team finished 16th overall and was led by senior Joy Shufeldt, who crossed the finish line with a time of 23:07.60.
Next Up: Whitworth will compete in the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on September 29.
