Cross Country Takes Fourth

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's and women's cross country teams both finished fourth overall at the Preview Sprint Meet at Mead High School on Saturday.

The Whitworth men's team scored 100 points to finish fourth in the standings, coming in behind Washington State (28), Gonzaga (30) and Idaho (87) and ahead of Eastern Washington (131). 

Freshman Chris MacMurray was the first of men to cross the finish line in the 6k with a time of 20:01.3.  Six other Whitworth runners crossed the line in under 21:00, including senior Timothy Hill, juniors Matthew Edwards and Andrew Ryder, sophomore Taylor Steele and freshmen Colton Berry and Luke Hoffman.

The Whitworth women's team scored 114 points to finish fourth in the standings, coming in behind Gonzaga (22), Washington State (42) and Idaho (69) and ahead of Eastern Washington (124).

Junior Elisabeth Spencer was the first of the Pirates to cross the finish line in the 4k with a time of 15:51. Freshman Kellyn Roiko also came in under the 16:00 mark, crossing the line at 15:53.7.

Whitworth returns to action on September 15 at the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
