Pirate Teams, Pair Honored for Academic Excellence

SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth's cross country teams and individual runners Trevor Berrian and Joy Shufeldt were all honored this week for academic excellence by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Both the Pirate men's and women's cross country teams earned Division III All-Academic status.  To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or better.

The Whitworth men had a cumulative GPA of 3.37 through the fall semester.  Meanwhile the Pirate women's cumulative GPA was 3.49 through the fall.

Shufeldt was one of 186 women and Berrian was one of 141 men who were selected as individuals to the 2011 Division III All-Academic Team. 

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
