Four Pirates Earn All-Northwest Conference Recognition

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Senior outside hitter Jalana White headlined a quartet of Whitworth University volleyball players who garnered All-Northwest Conference honors, as announced by the league office today. White earned All-Northwest Conference First Team honors, while sophomore outside hitter Nicole Leonard, sophomore setter Maddye Dinsmore and senior libero Whitney Santos all earned honorable mention consideration.

Jalana White picked up her second All-NWC honor in the past two seasons after earning All-NWC Second Team recognition as a junior in 2012. She led the conference with 428 total kills this season and her 3.82 kills per set average ranked second among NWC players. She finished the season ranked 35th among NCAA Division III players for her kills per set average and her 4.22 points per set ranked 53rd among Division III players. White finished the season with 473 points. She was tied for third on the team with 19 service aces this season and fourth on the team in digs (282) and blocks (42).

Nicole Leonard's 319 kills on the season ranked fourth among NWC hitters. She ranked second on the team in kills and digs, recording 401 digs in 2013. She had a season high 26 digs win Whitworth's match against Whittier. Her four service aces in the Pirates' final match against Linfield moved her up to 17 aces on the season and she recorded 34 blocks.

Maddye Dinsmore led the league in assists in 2013. Her 10.60 assists per set not only led the NWC, but ranked 13th among Division III players. Dinsmore finished 2013 with 1,186 assists and recorded a season-high 41 digs when the Pirates traveled to Whitman in early November. She led the team in service aces, tallying 32 on the season.

Whitney Santos earned her second All-NWC honor after being named to the All-NWC Second Team as a freshman in 2010. She led the NWC with 586 digs and her 5.33 digs per set average ranked fourth among conference players. Santos recorded a season-high 39 digs early in 2013, and finished the season ranked 43rd among Division III players in the digs per set category. Santos also served up 18 aces on the year for the Pirates.

Whitworth ended the 2013 season with a two match winning streak to claim third place in the NWC standings with a 9-7 conference record and an overall record of 15-13. The Pirates led the league in six categories –total kills (1,443), kills per set (12.77), assists (1,344), assists per set (11.89), digs (2, 074) and points (1763.5). Whitworth finished the season ranked 30th among NCAA Division III teams in both assists per set and digs per set, and were ranked 39th in kills per set.
