SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Whitworth volleyball team lost both of its games Saturday to wrap up competition at the 2012 Courtyard by Marriott Wittenberg National Invitational.
Whitworth (1-2) was unable to get the offense going in the 25-13, 25-17, 25-16 loss to No. 4 Wittenberg, hitting .065 for the game. Freshman Nicole Leonard had 12 of the Bucs' 25 kills, while junior Jalana White added four kills. Whitworth gave up seven service aces to the Tigers and Wittenberg finished with a team hitting percentage of .330.
Whitworth had a better offensive start in their second game, hitting .137 in the first set against Wartburg. However, it was not enough to overcome the Knights and the Pirates fell 31-29, 25-15, 25-17. White led the Bucs with 11 digs and nine kills, and Leonard finished with eight kills and 13 digs. Junior Kristine Kardell had five kills while freshman Jacqueline Brennan recorded seven digs.
Nicole Leonard and Jalana White were named to the all-tournament team. Whitworth finished the weekend in third place. Wittenberg went unbeaten to win the tournament title.
Whitworth returns to action on Thursday, September 6, hosting Walla Wall at 7 pm PDT in the Fieldhouse as part of the Whit Classic.
