Pirate Women Headed to Fall ITA Regional

SPOKANE, Wash. – It may be still be Fall, but the Whitworth women's tennis team is headed to an important competition this week in Oregon.

The Pirates travel to Tualatin, Oregon tomorrow to compete in this weekend's USTA/ITA Small College Regional Championship, which will be hosted by Lewis & Clark College at the Tualatin Hills Recreation Center.

The singles and doubles tournaments will take place all day on Saturday through Monday.  The results are used to establish early rankings for the spring season and also the winners of the singles and doubles tournaments advance to play in the ITA Division III Small College National Championships later this fall.

Eleven of Whitworth's 13 players will be competing in the event.  The Pirates who will be playing are:

Anabelle Burns (Fr., Laguna Niguel, Calif.), Caitlyn Heredia (Fr., Riverside, Calif.), Bella Hoyos (Fr., Bellingham, Wash.) Caylee Lamm (Jr., Spokane, Wash.), Sam Lockwood (Fr., Timnath, Colo.), Saryn Mooney (Jr., Centennial, Colo.), Taylor Pena (So., Medford, Ore.), Elle Shaughnessy (Fr.,  Camano Island, Wash.), Kate Troutman (Fr., Bellingham,  Wash.), Hannah Wallin (Fr., Salt Lake City, Utah), Ashley Winslow (Fr., Clovis, Calif.).

Mooney is the #2 seed in the singles draw.  Pena is seeded eighth.
