SPOKANE, Wash. – Visiting Whitman came away with a 6-3 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Saturday afternoon at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates dropped to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the NWC despite the fact that they won more games against the Missionaries (5-0, 4-0 NWC) than any other conference school to date.
Caylee Lamm and Morgan McDivitt earned individual wins for Whitworth at the bottom of the singles ladder. Lamm defeated Madison Webster 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) at #5 singles, while McDivitt topped Katrina Allick 7-6 (2), 6-3 at #6 singles.
Courtney Lawless swept by Saryn Mooney 6-0, 6-1 at #1 and Alyssa Robert beat Jessi Steele 6-2, 6-1 at #2. Morgan Lawless gave Whitman its third victory with a 6-0, 7-6 (5) win over Whitworth's Taylor Peña. Jenna Dobrin was the Missionaries' fourth singles winner after defeating Megan Wingfield 6-1, 6-2.
Whitworth's Mooney and Peña pushed the highly-ranked Whitman pair of Courtney Lawless and Roberg to the brink before falling 8-6 at #1 doubles. Dobrin and Morgan Lawless rolled past Steele and Annika Westre 8-2.
McDivitt and Wingfield gave the Pirates a doubles point with an 8-4 win over Webster and Allick.
The Pirates will return to action next Saturday at Pacific Lutheran.
