Lewis & Clark Tops Pirates in NWC Women's Opener

SPOKANE, Wash. – Lewis & Clark rolled to an 8-1 win over Whitworth in the Northwest Conference women's tennis opener for both teams on Friday night at the Scotford Tennis Center.

The visiting Pioneers swept all three doubles matches on the way to a victory that evened their record at 1-1 overall.  The Pirates dropped to 0-2.

Megan Wingfield and Morgan McDivitt played the closest doubles match of the night for Whitworth, falling to L&C's Lisa Osepyan and Isabelle Borris 9-7.

Jessi Steele won the only singles match of the night for the Pirates, defeating Olivia Cornell 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-4) at #2 on the ladder. 

Caylee Lamm went an extra set with L&C's Osepyan at #5 before falling 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (10-1).

Pioneer Audra Garrison topped Pirate Saryn Mooney 6-3, 6-3 at #1 singles.

Whitworth will try to pick up its first win of 2013 when the Pirates host Willamette University on Sunday morning.
