Whitworth Sweeps Past L&C 9-0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Whitworth had little trouble with Lewis & Clark as the visiting Pirates opened their final regular season road trip of 2012 with a 9-0 win over the Pioneers on Friday evening.

Whitworth improved to 12-5 overall and 8-3 in the NWC with its second win of the season over L&C (3-9, 3-8).

The Pirates swept all three doubles matches in quick fashion.  Jessi Steele and Saryn Mooney ran away with an 8-1 win over Gillian Lowe and Olivia Sweetman at #2 doubles.  Morgan McDivitt and Megan Wingfield were close behind with an 8-2 win over Makena McCluskey and Thersa Grigsby at #3 doubles.  Finally Erica Bosman and Alli Marshall defeated Lisa Osepyan and Jill Coleman 8-5.

None of the singles matches went more than two sets.  Marshall topped Osepyan 6-2, 7-5 in #1 singles in what turned out to be the closest of the six matches.  Bosman beat Coleman 6-3, 6-3 at #2 and Mooney defeated Sweetman 6-3, 6-0 at #3.

The bottom three matches went even quicker: Steele over Justine Minette 6-1, 6-1 at #4; Wingfield over Elisa Alway 6-0, 6-0 at #5 and Janell Talbot over Catherine Eichhorn 6-1, 6-1 at #6.
