NEWBERG, Ore. – Savannah Moisan scored twice to lead the George Fox Bruins to a 3-0 win over the Whitworth Pirates in Saturday afternoon's Northwest Conference women's soccer contest.
For the Bruins (5-9-2, 3-9-2 NWC), the win avenged a 2-1 Pirate victory in Spokane. Whitworth (11-5-3, 9-3-2 NWC) remains in third place in the Northwest Conference despite the loss.
Instead, Moisan put George Fox on the scoreboard in the 31st minute. After Molly Webster saved her initial shot, Moisan stole the Pirates' clearance pass and scored her sixth goal of the year.
Whitworth was unable to get a shot on goal after Moisan's goal, so the two teams headed into halftime with a 1-0 George Fox lead.
The Bruins added their final two goals in the second half. After a 66th minute Whitworth foul in the penalty area, Puka Ahina stepped to the spot and buried a penalty kick to extend the George Fox lead to 2-0.
After shots from Gabriella Coprivnicar and Annie Clark were both saved by Jones in the 69th minute, George Fox put the match away in the 87th minute. Moisan scored her second goal of the match on a through ball from Courtney Denn to give the Bruins a 3-0 victory.
George Fox finished the match with the lead in shots (18-8), shots on goal (9-4), and corner kicks (4-2). Webster finished with five saves for the Bucs, and Jones earned the shutout with four saves. Moisan, Ahina, and Brittany Bravo earned yellow cards for George Fox. Amanda Gerrard was the only Pirate cautioned.
Whitworth closes out its season on Sunday against Lewis & Clark. The Bucs and Pios square off in Portland, Ore. at 12:00 p.m.
