SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth women's soccer hits the road this weekend for their first Northwest Conference road trip after consecutive weekends at home.

The Pirates head to Oregon to do battle with George Fox and Pacific (Ore.). The match against the Bruins takes place Saturday at 11:00 a.m., followed by a battle with the Boxers on Sunday at Noon.

The Whitworth women's soccer schedule has live links for both matches this weekend.

The Pirates: After a 1-3 start to their season in its first two weekends, Whitworth (3-3, 2-0 NWC) bounced back in a big way last week.

The Pirates began NWC play with a 2-1 takedown of Willamette in which they didn't allow a shot on goal for the entire second half. Kathryn Bischoff sent in the match-winner on a free kick in the 57th minute after Michele Whan tied the match with an excellent individual drive to the goal.

Whitworth's run without a shot on goal continued all the way through their second match of the weekend against Lewis & Clark. Goalkeepers Sienna Tanner and Molly Webster didn't need to make a single save for the match, which the Pirates won 3-0.

Home Sweet Home: During second-year head coach Bryan Olson's tenure at Whitworth, the Pirates are 10-2 playing on the Whitworth Soccer Field. In 2016, Whitworth finished 7-1 at home, and the Pirates are 3-1 in Spokane this season.

Getting Defensive: Through their first two matches of NWC play the Pirate defense allowed just four shots on goal, all coming in the first half of their match with Wilamette. The last shot on goal allowed by the Whitworth defense was in the 22nd minute of Saturday's match against the Bearcats.

The Bruins: George Fox (3-2, 1-1 NWC) began NWC play by defeating Pacific (Ore.) 1-0 on the road, but fell 2-1 to Puget Sound on Sunday afternoon.

Bruin goalkeeper Kelsey Kammerzeli will almost certainly provide a tough test for Whitworth attackers. The junior allows just over one goal per match and saves 82 percent of shots on goal. On the attacking side, Emma Logan leads George Fox with two goals.

Last season, the Bruins and Pirates split with both teams winning matches at home. George Fox won 2-1 in Newburg, and McKenzie Hemp scored Whitworth's first goal in a 2-0 victory in Spokane.

The Boxers: Pacific (Ore.) (0-5-1, 0-2 NWC) enters the weekend in search of its first win. In NWC play, the Boxers dropped matches to George Fox and 23rd-ranked Pacific Lutheran 1-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Emily Thompson leads the Boxers with two goals so far this season. She also has one assist. Kayla Mizo and Brooklynn Smith have also scored goals for Pacific this season.

The Pirates swept the Boxers last season. Hannah Rae Miller and Hemp scored the match-winners for Whitworth in 2-1 and 1-0 victories.

Looking Ahead: After their weekend in Oregon, Whitworth returns home to battle perennial conference powers Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran. The Pirates take on the Loggers Saturday, Sept. 30 and battle the Lutes Sunday, Oct. 1. Both matches begin at Noon.
