Whitworth Blanks Pacific 2-0

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Whitworth remained unbeaten in Northwest Conference women's soccer play following a 2-0 win at Pacific University on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Park Stadium.

Mackenzie Grow tallied her second goal of the weekend to help the Pirates improve to 5-4 overall and 5-0 in the NWC (15 points). The Boxers dropped to 4-2-3, 2-2-1 (7 points).

Whitworth got on scoreboard in the 35th minute when Grow converted a penalty kick for her second goal of the weekend, and her second of the season.  Tiara Pajimola set up the PK by drawing a foul in the penalty area.

Jackie Day then gave Whitworth a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute when she headed in Aaren Sherpe's cross from five yards out.  It is Day's first score of the year.

"The whole team played well today," said Pirate head coach Jael Hagerott. "Our two goals were excellent finishes and were a testament to the work put in by the whole team. "

The Pirates posted their fifth straight shutout, and four have come on the watch of goalkeeper Andrea Stump who made three saves in the match. 

Whitworth outshot Pacific 11-7, including a 9-3 edge in shots on-goal.  Brittany Harmon made seven saves for the Boxers.

The Pirates will return home next weekend to host Pacific.
