ORANGE, Calif. – The 2012 women's soccer season got off to a rocky start for Whitworth on Friday night as the Pirates fell 3-0 at Chapman in the opener for both schools.
The Panthers controlled the action throughout, outshooting Whitworth 18-3 in the match, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal.
Olivia Do got Chapman on the board first in the eighth minute, taking a pass from Val Sobol and beating Pirate keeper Andrea Stump for a 1-0 Panther lead.
Rebeccah Bortz gave the hosts a 2-0 lead 21 minutes into the second half and Savanna Schmidt tallied the match-clincher in the 87th minute.
Stump made seven saves for Whitworth in her first career start.
Jill Pecka was the only Pirate player with more than one shot.
Whitworth will get another chance to net its first win of the season on Saturday night at 16th-ranked Cal Lutheran.
