Pirate Golf Teams Competing Locally

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's and women's golf teams are competing in the Spokane area for the only time this fall today and tomorrow.  Both teams are entered in the Lilac Collegiate Tournament, hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane.

The women's team is in third place after the first day.  The Pirates shot a score of 319 on Monday at Liberty Lake Golf Course.  Rocky Mountain (Mont.) is in the lead after a round of 303 (+15). 

Allie Slingsby currently leads the Whitworth women.  She is tied for fourth place after a season-best round of 76.  Mattie Peters (78) is 9th.  Both are chasing Laura Gerner, who is playing as a non-scoring individual for the University of Idaho.  She shot 73.

Whitworth split its team into two squads.  The Whitworth A team, made up of Keegan Loo, Triston Hartfiel, Derrick Phelps, Reilly Hegarty and JackRyan O'Neil, is in fifth place with a score of 290.  The B squad (Caleb Belton, Elijah Pittser, Preston Roth, Ryan Brown and Sam Stiles) is right behind in sixth place (293).  Both teams are chasing North Idaho College (278).

Loo is the Pirates' top individual.  He is in a tie for seventh place after shooting a round of 70 (E).  Belton, Phelps and Hartfiel all shot 72 and are tied for 17th

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday.  Both events will be at MeadowWood Golf Course.
