SPOKANE, Wash. – Jaymie Pentony and Cheyenne Marchand finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, leading Whitworth University to a second place finish at the Sunshine Invitational women's golf tournament hosted by Whitman College at Columbia Point GC.
Whitman won the event by 41 strokes, while Whitworth finished 45 strokes ahead of Lewis & Clark. The final team scores were: Whitman 625, Whitworth 666, Lewis & Clark 711, Pacific Lutheran 726, Willamette 740, Puget Sound 760, Linfield 771.
Pentony shot 83-80 – 163 to lead the Pirates with her seventh place finish. Marchand's score was 86-80 – 166 for eighth place.
Whitman's Shiyang Fan picked up medalist honors with a score of 72-68 – 140 (-4), 16 strokes ahead of the runner-up player.
Whitworth will return to action in three weeks when the Pirates place at the UCSC Spring Invitatinal in Pacific Grove, Calif.
