Peters Leads Pirate Women at Culturame Classic

CANBY, Ore. – Maggie Peters shot a 76 on Sunday to finish eighth at the Culturame women's golf Classic, hosted by George Fox University at the Willamette Valley Country Club.

Whitworth finished in third place out of nine teams.  The tournament served as a warmup for the Pirates for next week's Northwest Conference Fall Classic.

The final team scores were: George Fox 305-301 – 606, Whitman 326-305 – 631, Whitworth 334-326 – 660, Redlands 341-325 – 666, Lewis & Clark 365-357 – 722, UC Santa Cruz 380-363 – 743, Pacific (Ore.) 378-372 – 750, Linfield incomplete, Willamette incomplete.

Peters led the Pirates with a final total of 82-76 – 158 (+14).  It was the first time she was the top Whitworth finisher at a tournament this season.  She and teammate Amy Wagner had been tied for 11th after Saturday's round.

Kristin Elich of George Fox and Phoebe Nguyen of Whitman tied for medalist honors with a final score of 150 (+6).  Elich won on the first playoff hole.

Wagner finished in a tie for 12th place with a score of 82-82 – 164.  Jaymie Pentony took 15th place after shooting 85-83 – 168. 

Katie Ochoa (88-85 – 173) and Madison Pillo (85-88 – 173) tied for 20th place.  Cheyenne Marchand, playing as a non-scoring individual, finished in 16th place (89-80 – 169). 

Next weekend the Pirates will compete in the NWC Fall Classic, which counts as 25% of the final league standings.
