Women's Golf Takes Second Place

SPOKANE, Wash. – Senior Emily Guthrie shot four-over-par to take first place and help the Whitworth women's golf team to a second place finish in the Whitworth Invitational at the Spokane Country Club this weekend.

Guthrie shot a two-day total of 150 and finished eight strokes ahead of Whitman's Catelyn Webber who took second. Junior Ashley Danforth finished tied with Whitman's Tate Head, both ladies finishing with a score of 162. Freshmen Chelsea Bayley finished with a score of 166, Yvonne LaCoursiere with a 177 and Cindy Tapia had a 188 and all finished in the top 30.

The women's team finished with a two-day score of 655 to finish 16 strokes behind first-place Whitman.  The Pirates took second place and were 19 strokes ahead of third-place Willamette. Warner Pacific finished fourth in the team standings. Linfield and North Idaho College tied for fifth place and Puget Sound took seventh.

Whitworth returns to action next weekend at the George Fox Invitational, which runs October 6-7 at The Reserve Golf Course.
