SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth junior Emily Guthrie has been awarded an at-large bid to play as an individual in the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships. The tournament will be May 8-11 at Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana with Trine University serving as the host institution.
Guthrie is one of only six individual qualifiers for the field at the national tournament.
"Emily has worked very hard this season and I am glad that hard work paid off and everything turned out the way it should have," said Katie Fuqua, Whitworth women's golf coach. "I am so proud of her."
Guthrie made her case as an individual player by winning medalist honors at the 2012 Northwest Conference Tournament two weekends ago. She shot a 78-72 – 150 to win the tournament at Columbia Point Golf Course in Richland, Washington.
Guthrie has posted an average score of 79.9 in nine tournaments this season. She has five top-five finishes.
Guthrie will be making her second appearance at the NCAA Division III tournament. As a freshman Guthrie finished in a tie for 50th place (out of 104 players) at the 2010 NCAA Championships when she participated as a member of the Pirate team. Whitworth finished 17th as a team that season.
