Lomax Leads Whitworth on Day 1 of Spring Classic

PENDLETON, Ore. – Nicole Lomax shot a five-over round of 77 to lead the Whitworth women into third place on the opening day of the Northwest Conference women's Spring Classic on Saturday at the Wildhorse Resort Golf Course.

Lomax is in third place individually, six strokes behind George Fox's Kelsey Morrison (-1, 77).

George Fox (312) leads the tournament at the halfway point, eight strokes ahead of host Whitman (320).  Whitworth (328) is in third place, three strokes ahead of Linfield (331).  Willamette (338) is in fifth, followed by PLU (356), Pacific (385) and Puget Sound (419).  Lewis & Clark is unable to field a complete team.

Lomax's round was her best of the year.  She is only one stroke behind second-place Nicole Smith of Willamette.

Emily Guthrie (80) is tied for sixth place, giving Whitworth two players among the top-ten in the standings.

Elizabeth Martin (85) is tied for 15th and Haley Owens (86) is 19thAshley Danforth (87) is tied for 20th.

The tournament concludes on Sunday. 

The NWC Spring Classic counts 25% toward the final league standings.
