McMinnville, Ore –The Whitworth men's swimming team won all 11 events in its dual meet at Linfield College on Saturday, claiming a 155-46 win over the Wildcats. The Pirate women won nine of the 11 events to defeat the hosts 128.5 – 75.5.
Kyle Wicks and Brandon Smith each won two individual events for the Pirate men, who improved to 2-0 in dual meets. Wicks sprinted to a 22.18 win in the 50-yard freestyle, then led a 1-2-3 Whitworth sweep in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.62. Smith led a 1-2-3 Pirate sweep in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a winning time of 16:57.06. Whitworth also went 1-2-3 in the 500-yard freestyle, led by Smith's time of 4:58.50.
Tatum anchored the closing 200-yard free relay in a winning time of 1:29.64. Matt Brody, who won the 100 freestyle in 50.19, was also on the final relay.
Samantha Smith and Bridget Louis each won twice for the Pirate women (2-0 in dual meets). Smith won both the 100 butterfly (1:00.15) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.65). Louis took the 1,650 freestyle in 18:24.56 and the 400-yard individual medley in 4:51.53.
Stang and Beal were also on the final 200 Free Relay, which won in 1:43.20. Kori Carpenter, who won the 200 freestyle in 2:01.36, was also on the last relay.
Whitworth returns home to host Pacific University next Friday in the first home dual meet of the 2013-14 season.
