SPOKANE, Wash. – The final dual meet weekend of the season is a big one for the Whitworth swimming teams. On Friday night the Pirates will host College of Idaho in a non-conference meet at the Aquatic Center. More importantly, it will be the final home meet for the Whitworth's seven seniors and those individuals will be recognized prior to the first event.
On Saturday afternoon Whitworth's long Northwest Conference dual meet winning streaks will be put on the line at Whitman College. The Pirate men have won 90 NWC dual meets in a row over the last 14 seasons, while the women have a 43-meet NWC dual meet streak. The men's meet is a showdown of unbeatens as both the Pirates and Missionaries will enter the contest with 6-0 conference dual meet records. The Whitman men will provide the stiffest challenge to the winning streak since its earliest years. The Whitworth women are also 6-0 while the Whitman women are 5-1 with only a close loss at Pacific Lutheran blemishing the record.
The Meets: The dual against College of Idaho will be a "short order" meet with 100-yard distances of butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke and the 200-yard distance of the individual medley. The teams will swim a 400 medley relay, but a 200 freestyle relay. The meet will begin at 6:00 pm on Friday night. A live video feed will be available at this link:
The dual at Whitman will begin at 1:00 pm on Saturday. This meet will follow the 16-event format with races in both the 100-yard and 200-yard distances of the butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke races. There will be one I.M. race and the teams will swim the 1,000-yard freestyle distance, rather than the 1,650.
