Whitworth Teams Swim Past Puget Sound

TACOMA, Wash. – Abby Pavelko and Alisa Stang each won two events to lead the Whitworth women to a 125-80 win at Puget Sound in a Northwest Conference swimming dual meet on Friday night.  Kyle Wicks won twice to lift the Pirate men over the Loggers 118-87.

The Whitworth women won seven of the 11 events to improve to 5-1 and 5-0 in the NWC.  UPS fell to 4-5, 3-2.

Pavelko pulled away to win the 800-meter freestyle in 9:43.18.  She then added a victory in the 400-meter Individual Medley with a time of 5:17.61.

Stang sprinted away with the 50-meter freestyle in 28.39 then claimed the 100-meter free with a time of 1:01.19.  Stang also anchored the Pirate 400-meter freestyle relay at the end of the meet to a first place finish with a time of 4:09.07.

Kori Carpenter was the winner of the women's 200-meter freestyle (2:11.81) and Bridget Louis won the 400-meter freestyle (4:42.63) as Whitworth swept all of the freestyle races on Friday night.

Wicks won both the 50 freestyle (24.83) and the 200-meter breaststroke (2:29.80) to become the only individual multiple event winner for the Pirate men.  He also swam breaststroke on Whitworth's 400-meter medley relay that opened the night by winning in 4:06.42.

Aaron Vaccaro swam to victory in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.80.  He was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay at the end of the meet that finished in 3:38.29.

The relay wins and overall depth helped the Pirates (5-1, 5-0) overcome the Loggers (5-3, 4-1), who won six of the 11 events.

Whitworth will continue its weekend in Tacoma on Saturday with a dual meet at Pacific Lutheran at 1:00 pm.
