Pirates Post Season Bests on Husky Opening Day
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Whitworth swimming teams posted several season-best marks on the first day of the 2012 Husky Invitational Friday at the Weyerheauser King County Aquatic Center.

Only one Whitworth individual advanced to the evening final heats. Alisa Stang finished 28th in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 24.41. Aaron Vaccaro just missed qualifying for the evening finals heats in the men's 50 freestyle despite a season-best time of 21.63.
Whitworth competed in all the relays during the evening heats. The Pirate men's team of Vaccaro, Kyle Wicks, Jason Lemley and Callum MacKintosh took 12th place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season-best time of 1:26.87. Vaccaro, Wicks, Wes Tatum and MacKintosh took 17th in the men's 400-yard medley relay with another season-best mark of 3:33.35.
The Pirate women's team of Hannah Norris, Kori Carpenter, Marit Borth and Stang was 26th in the 200 free relay in 1:39.97, dropping nearly three seconds from the team's previous season-best time. Nicole Lecoq, Melissa Barringer, Samantha Smith and Stang finished 24th in the 400 medley with a season-best time of 4:00.23.
Kate Duvall was the women's top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 33rd in the morning preliminaries with a time of 5:11.49 that took 13 seconds off of her previous season-best mark. Smith finished 93rd in the prelims of the 200-yard individual medley with a season-best time of 2:12.97.
Mitchell Beck took a half second off of his previous season best while finishing 42nd in the preliminaries of the men's 500 free with a time of 4:47.03. Andrew Sumnicht dropped four seconds in the 200 IM, taking 53rd in 1:58.51.
The meet will continue on Saturday, with prelims at 9:00 am and finals at 6:00 pm.
