DURBAN, South Africa – Whitworth senior Rory Buck finished in fourth place in the championship finals of the 100-meter breaststroke at the South African Aquatics Championships on Tuesday evening.
Buck's final time was 1:02.85. Cameron Vander Burgh, the short course world recordholder in the event, won the race with an automatic Olympic qualifying time of 59.90.
Buck has posted a personal lifetime best mark of 1:02.36 in Monday's semifinals.
Buck will now turn his attention to the 200 distance, which is his specialty. He will compete in the preliminaries and semifinals of the 200-meter breaststroke on Thursday. The championship final is on Friday.
