Men's Medley Relay Takes 11th at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Whitworth men finished in 11th place in the 400-yard medley relay on Thursday night at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Franklin College at the Indianapolis Natatorium.

The Pirate relay of Wesley Walton, Rory Buck, Aaron Vaccaro and Nathan Ranno raced to a time of 3:22.67, improving by nearly a second over their time from the morning's preliminary heats.  Whitworth finished third in the consolation final for 11th place overall.  The Pirates' time in the race is within a second of the school record.

By scoring 12 points in the event Whitworth increased its team total to 20 and the Pirates moved up to 18th in the men's standings.

Vaccaro was Whitworth's only individual swimmer on Friday.  He finished 33rd in the preliminaries of the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.66.

Three Pirates are scheduled to compete in individual events on Friday.  Buck will attempt to defend his title from 2011 in the 100-yard breaststroke.  Walton will race in the 100-yard backstroke.  Katherine Duvall will swim in the women's 100-yard backstroke.
