INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Whitworth men's 200-yard medley relay finished in 13th place on Wednesday during the first day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.
The Pirate quartet of Wes Walton, Rory Buck, Aaron Vaccaro and Nathan Ranno finished with a time of 1:33.03. Whitworth improved three places from the morning preliminaries when the relay barely qualified in 16th place for the evening consolation final.
The Pirates got eight points for their finish and currently sit in 30th place in the men's championship.
Three Whitworth swimmers competed individually in Wednesday morning's preliminaries, though none advanced to the evening's heats.
Buck improved his entry time in the 50-yard freestyle by nearly four-tenths of a second and finished 45th with a time of 21.43.
Walton finished 32nd in the preliminary heats of the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:54.14.
Katherine Duvall improved her entry time in the 500-yard freestyle and finished 29th with a time of 5:06.00.
On Thursday the same four Whitworth men will compete in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay. Vaccaro will race in the men's 100-yard butterfly.
