Whitworth Performs Well on Day One at Husky Invite

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. --Oliver Durand had Whitworth's best individual finish on the first day of the 2011 Husky Invitational Friday evening at the King County Aquatic Center.

Durand finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:40.98. Austin Vierra actually had a faster time during the evening finals - 4:39.29 - but he finished in 17th place after only making the "C" final during Friday's preliminaries. Luke Welle was 22nd in 4:49.44.

Aaron Vaccaro finished 16th in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.57 following a 21.38 in the morning heats. He was Whitworth's only other individual scorer.

The Pirate men's 200-yard freestyle relay finished 10th in 1:27.43. It was comprised of Andrew Sumnicht, Nathan Ranno, Matt Brody and Vaccaro.

Jennifer Benson was the only individual scorer for the Pirate women. She finished 23rd in the 50 freestyle with a season-best 24.39.

The women's 200 free relay took 16th place with a time of 1:40.13. Anna Case, Nicole Lecoq, Alisa Stang and Benson competed for the Bucs.

The meet will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
