Whitworth in 10th Place at Husky Invitational

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Whitworth is in 10th place in the combined team score following the second of three days of competition at the Husky Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center.

Aaron Vaccaro led Whitworth individually with a tenth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 50.68. Wesley Tatum also added points in the 100 Fly by finishing 19th in 51.52.

Oliver Durand was 12th in the men's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.55. Austin Vierra was close behind in 14th place in 1:43.69.

The Whitworth men's 800-yard freestyle relay finished sixth in 7:01.94. The men's 200-yard medley relay was ninth in 1:37.66. Durand and Nathan Ranno swam on both relays for the Bucs.

Jennifer Benson had the women's best individual finish of the night, taking 21st place in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.24 after she posted a 59.34 in the morning preliminaries.

Melissa Barringer finished 22nd in the 100-yard breastroke (1:07.96) and Samantha Smith was 25th in the 100 butterfly (58.35).

The Pirate women's 800 freestyle relay (Nicole Lecoq, Alisa Stang, Kate Duvall and Benson) finished 10th in 7:50.60. The women were 18th in the 200 medley relay (1:51.54).

Whitworth has a combined score of 435 points in the meet to sit in 10th place. University of British Columbia (1,936) and Grand Canyon (1,873.5) is in second place. Fellow NWC member Puget Sound (360) is 11th, while Whitman (120) is 18th and Pacific Lutheran (74) is 25th.

The meet will conclude on Sunday.
