Softball Announces Incoming Class

SPOKANE, Wash. – Head coach Cristal Brown has announced the addition of five incoming players for the 2019 Whitworth softball team.  These five student-athletes confirmed their admission to Whitworth University with the intention of playing for the Pirates.

The incoming class includes two pitchers, a catcher, an outfielder and a utility player.  The five incoming first-year players will join a group of 18 returnees from a squad that finished 24-18 overall and 17-11 (third place) in the Northwest Conference last season.

The pitchers are Drea Schwaier and Rose Meshell, the catcher is Maddy Thomas, the outfielder is Delayna Waite and the utility player is Makenzie Sherrill.

This class will make an immediate on-the-field impact adding significant pitching depth, offensive power, and high level softball experience to our team," Brown said. "More than that, they are all young women of quality character who will fit well with our culture."

"There are multiple reasons why I chose Whitworth, but the one that stands out the most is the instant comfort I felt when I stepped on campus. I was over a year away from being finished with high school and I already felt at home. Not only did I fall in love with the campus, I fell in love with the softball team and its atmosphere, and how wonderful my future coaches were to me. I fell in love with the faculty and how welcoming they were during this brand new chapter in my life. I've always wanted to live in Washington, and I couldn't imagine myself starting this new part of my life anywhere else but Whitworth!
