SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth senior pitcher Madi Perez continues to add to her awards haul in 2017. The Northwest Conference Pitcher of the Year, Perez has been voted to the 2017 Academic All-District 8 Division III Softball Team by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The organization released its list of academic honorees today.
Perez is a psychology major from Fountain Valley, California. She has a 3.95 GPA through January Term.
Perez has had a record-setting senior season. She is 23-4 with a 1.57 ERA as the Pirates' primary starting pitcher in 2017. She set a school record for wins in a season and also for career victories (61). She also had three saves this season and led the league in complete games (19) and shutouts (8).
Perez has led Whitworth to a 35-9 record and into the NCAA Division III tournament for the third season in a row. The Pirates claimed the NWC's automatic bid by winning the league tournament on April 21-23 at Diana Marks Field.
To qualify for nomination to the Academic All-District team a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.25 and be of sophomore standings. The nominees must also be a starter, or key reserve. Perez is now eligible for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III softball team.
