SPOKANE, Wash. – Sami Parr has closed out her outstanding softball career at Whitworth with a second straight selection to the Capital One Academic All-District 8 Division III Softball Team.
Parr, a senior who has started her entire career at second base for the Pirates, is a Health Science major with a cumulative grade point average of 3.98 through January. She was also a First Team Academic All-District selection in 2011.
Parr finished the 2012 season with a .320 batting average, which ranked third on the team. She led the Pirates with four home runs and her 34 runs scored were tied for the team lead. She drove in 21 runs and had seven doubles. Parr also led the Bucs in stolen bases this season with 14 in 17 attempts.
Parr set Whitworth's career record for runs scored with 113, breaking the previous record by 21 runs.
Parr helped the Pirates bounce back from a 3-14 start in 2012 to finish with a 19-21 overall record.
The Academic All-District 8 teams are selected from NCAA Division III players from the Northwest, California, Louisiana, Texas and Iowa. The players are nominated and selected by members of CoSIDA. To be eligible for nomination, a player must be a starter or important reserve with a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and of at least sophomore standing. Parr is now eligible to be selected to the Capital One CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America team.
