SPOKANE, Wash. - Three players from Whitworth University have been selected to the 2011 All-West Region team as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Bushey (Sr., MF, Spokane, Wash.) was the Pirates' offensive leader with eight goals and eight assists for a total of 24 points. He converted three of three penalty kicks and five of his goals were match-winners. Bushey was a Third Team All-Region choice last year and earlier this fall had been selected All-Northwest Conference First Team for the second year in a row.
JT Meyer (Sr., MF, Olympia, Wash.) is an NSCAA All-Region honoree for the third year in a row. He scored three goals this season and added seven assists. Meyer was the NWC Offensive Player of the Week in the final week of the regular season for his assist and goal in the win over Whitman that clinched a share of the NWC title.
Dion Coxe (Sr., D, Eugene, Ore.) was the anchor on the Whitworth defense in the center-back position. The Pirate defense led the Northwest Conference by a wide margin and ranked in the top-ten among all NCAA Division III schools with a 0.49 goals-against average in 2011. This is Coxe's first appearance on the All-Region team.
The Pirate men finished the season with an overall record of 14-3-1 and in conference, 12-2. They were able to share the NWC title with Pacific Lutheran.
