Pirates Defeated in NWC
SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth men's soccer team's (5-2-1, 3-1) three game, NWC win streak was snapped by Pacific Lutheran (6-2, 3-1) 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
In the 12th minute of play Spencer Augustin of PLU shot a low ball outside of the box to put the Lutes up 1-0. The ball was deflected and made its way through the Whit defense and into the goal.
The match proved to be a physical, back and forth battle between the two squads. Whitworth made 11 shot attempts while Pacific Lutheran made 10.
Both goalkeepers made impressive saves throughout the game. Brian Sherpe (Sr., GK, Centennial, Colo.) recorded five and the Lutes' Joe Rayburn made six, which included key saves at the end of the match to keep the Pirates at bay.
Next weekend the Bucs will turn their attention to NWC opponents Lewis and Clark and Linfied. The matches will be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, respectively.
