PASCO, Wash. – Sam Stiles was the runner up and Whitworth University took third place in a truncated Sunshine Invitational men's golf tournament over the weekend at Sun Willows Golf Course.
Linfield won the team title and Mason Koch of George Fox earned medalist honors.
But the event was affected by frost on Saturday, which prevented several players from completing the first round. And then after play was completed on Sunday, officials determined that only the first nine holes from Saturday would count, costing Whitworth a chance at the team victory and Stiles an opportunity to share medalist honors.
The final team scores were: Linfield 448, George Fox 453, Whitworth 454, Willamette 458, Whitman 477, Lewis & Clark 488, Puget Sound 533.
Koch's score was 34-74 – 108 (E). Stiles followed with a score of 36-73 – 109 (+1). Elijah Pittser (36-74 – 110) finished in a four-way tie for third place. Caleb Belton (39-75 – 114) finished tied for 10th.
The Pirates will be back in action on March 26-27 at the West Cup tournament in LaVerne, California.
