Men's Golf Stumbles on Sunday at NWC Fall Classic

BANKS, Ore. – The Whitworth University men's golf team stumbled on Sunday and fell from second place to fourth place in the final standings of the Northwest Conference Fall Classic at Quail Valley Golf Course.

The Pirates shot 288 on Saturday and trailed only eventual winner Willamette in the team standings.  But Whitworth followed up with a score of 296 on Sunday, falling behind George Fox and Pacific Lutheran in the final standings.

The NWC Fall Classic counts as 25% of the final league standings.  The Fall Classic team scores were: Willamette 282-280 – 562, George Fox 291-285 – 576, Pacific Lutheran 290-293 – 583, Whitworth 288-296 – 584, Linfield 298-296 – 594, Puget Sound 302-302 – 604, Pacific (Ore.) 303-309 – 612, Whitman 309-309 – 618, Lewis & Clark 308-325 – 633.

Willamette's Trent Jones (66-70) and PLU's (67-69) tied atop the individual leaderboard with a score of 136 (-6).  Jones earned medalist honors on the first playoff hole.

Elijah Pittser finished sixth with a final tally of 68-75 – 143.  Triston Hartfiel (70-76 – 146) tied for eighth place, giving the Pirates to players among the top ten individuals. 

Ryan Brown (78-69 – 147) posted the team's best score on Sunday and finished tied for 11thReilly Hegarty (72-76 – 148) tied for 13th and Sam Stiles (80-79 – 159) tied for 38th

Whitworth will finish out the fall portion of its schedule at the Whitman Invitational in two weeks in Walla Walla.
