KENNEWICK, Wash. – Windy conditions did not deter the Whitworth University men's golf team as the Pirates maintained their hold on first place through the final round of the Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Canyon Lakes Golf Course on Sunday.
Senior Stephen Plopper earned medalist honors, lowering his score by one stroke to finish with a 76-75—151 total. Sophomore Oliver Rudnicki tied for second with a 72-81—153, and senior Jesse Salzwedel tied for fourth with a total of 76-78—154. Sophomore Andrew Dodge shot matching scores of 80 in both rounds to finish tied for 14th with a 160 total. Sophomore Lyle Rudnicki rounded out the Whitworth team with an 80-83—163 total to tie for 17th place.
Whitworth's team score went up with the windy playing conditions, but the Pirates extended their lead, winning with a total 304-314—618 total. Second-place Willamette sat 16 strokes back, with a 316-318—634 total. Pacific Lutheran (321-316—637) finished third. Linfield (326-328—654) and Puget Sound (319-335-654) tied for fourth. Whitman (338-324—662) finished sixth, followed by Pacific (Ore.) (339-330—669) in seventh. Lewis & Clark (356-323—679) and George Fox (372-339—711) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Pirate men return to action Easter weekend, competing at the Whitman Invitational on April 19th and 20th in Walla Walla.
